Sublimation is a printing technique for clothing where special ink is transferred onto polyester or synthetic fabrics using heat and pressure. The ink turns into a gas and penetrates the fibers, creating a permanent, durable, and not perceptible print with vibrant colors. This technique works only on white or light-colored polyester or synthetic materials.

How it works

  1. The ink is first printed onto special transfer paper.
  2. The transfer is placed on the garment and heated with a heat press.
  3. At high temperatures, the ink turns into a gas and penetrates the polyester or nylon fibers.
  4. As it cools, the ink returns to its solid form and fuses with the fibers, creating a durable, wash-resistant print.

Advantages of sublimation

  • Colors remain vibrant, and the print is wash-resistant, scratch-resistant, and will not crack.
  • The ink penetrates the fabric, resulting in a lightweight, flexible garment without an extra layer.
  • Ideal for detailed and colorful designs.
  • The print stretches with the fabric, so it does not crack or tear during movement.
  • The print is part of the material and is barely noticeable to the touch.
  • Perfect for sportswear, personalized mugs, promotional items, and any application requiring durable, full-color prints.

Limitations

  • Works only on white or light-colored polyester and synthetic fabrics such as nylon.
  • Natural fabrics like cotton, satin, and dark polyesters or nylons are not suitable for this technique.
